Theseus — Senior Thesis
Named after the thought experiment of the “Ship of Theseus” that questions whether an object that has had all of its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object, Theseus is a modular printer system paired with an easily refillable waste-reducing toner cartridge. The modular printer aspect allows for increased longevity and waste reduction through the repairability gained through a modular printer system. The infinitely refillable printer toner cartridge works with the modular printer, but also standalone, allowing itself to be adapted to existing printer systems. By allowing the first party manufacturer to continue to sell first party toner powder without the need to sell it inside a cartridge, it sustains the existing business model. This leads to a win-win situation through the creation of an easily recyclable pouch for the toner, leading to less e-waste in landfills, and cheaper production costs for the manufacturer that is passed onto the end-user.
